A Not So Rocky Road

UPDATE: CCP have released a blog post on the EVE Online detailing their plans for the future and this February 2020 update was just the first phase. You can find my thoughts, as well as links to the EVE Online dev blog post, on my next blog post here:

The update for February 11, 2020, has been deployed successfully and the full patch notes can be found here:

A lot of good things in there, but there is a troublesome part of the update that is most likely going to cause a huge shift in current gameplay.

From the patch notes listed under UNIVERSE:

The following adjustments have been made to asteroids throughout the universe of New Eden:
High Sec Asteroids:
Pyroxeres, Omber & Kernite quantities reduced.
Low Sec Asteroids:
Veldspar, Scordite, Pyroxeres, Plagioclase, Jaspet, Hemorphite & Hedbergite quantities reduced.
Null Sec Asteroids:
Scordite, Omber, Kernite, Jaspet, Hemorphite, Hedbergite, Gneiss, Dark Ochre, Crokite & Arkonor quantities reduced.
Bistot quantity increased.
Ore Anomalies spawned from Sovereignty Industry Index upgrades:
Level 1, 2 & 3 respawn times adjusted.
All variations of Crokite in all levels replaced with the equivalent yield variation of Kernite.
Gneiss, Dark Ochre & Spodumain quantities reduced.

Now at first glance this doesn't seem to be too bad, however it appears that CCP has gone extremely heavy handed on their rock reductions. Alcoholic Satan, one of Pandemic Horde's directors, posted a thread on the EVE subreddit of a screenshot of a fresh collosal anomaly in which you can see how badly the reduction was.

You can find that thread here:

Basically it makes anomaly mining not so good anymore, but also includes belt mining as well I think. Moons, gas and ice don't seem to have any changes to them currently.

I'm not even a miner and this part of the update makes me both worried and scared. It's only been a few hours and some of the minerals have skyrocketed to over triple their price.

I don't know if this such huge reduction was intentional or not, but CCP has definitely reduced them too hard and too fast. I do hope CCP will either revert the changes or fix them so the reduction isn't so absolutely insane.

  1. Yeah, this is looking like a pretty harsh nerf. And in the thread on that Reddit post it was confirmed that this was "as designed." Hoo boy.
